It was a tough game on multiple fronts for the Florida Panthers Monday night. Not only did they lose to New York in a shootout 5-4, they also lost goalie Roberto Luongo to a lower body injury in the second period. Luongo had 12 saves before exiting with the score tied at one, he is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of his injury.
James Reimer had 16 saves in relief of Luongo in a back and forth contest. The game went into overtime tied at four before Mathew Barzal scored the only goal in the shootout for the final margin. Denis Malgin, Aleksander Barkov, and Aaron Ekblad all scored for the Panthers. Keith Yandle also notched a goal and two assists, Vincent Trocheck added three assists. Next up for the Panthers are the Winnepeg Jets who visit Sunrise on Thursday.
The undefeated Miami Hurricanes Men’s Basketball team is back in action Tuesday as they play Boston University from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables. Miami enters the contest 7-0 and ranked 10th in the AP poll. Sophomore forward Dewan Huell is leading the team in scoring at 14 points per game. Bruce Brown is averaging just over 11 points a game, and leads the team with 8.6 rebounds a game. Miami is coming off an impressive 80-52 win at the HoopHall Miami Invitational held at the Heat’s House, the American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami. Boston University comes into the game at 3-3 on the season. Like the Hurricanes, the Terriers from the Patriot League are struggling from the charity stripe. Both teams rank near the bottom in free throw percentage with Boston University having the lowest percentage nationally (52.7), Miami is not much better having converted just 57.8 percent of their attempts.
