Today in the Miami Sports Minute we preview a busy Monday for Miami sports fans, with the Dolphins, Heat, and Panthers all in action.
Miami Dolphins face Patriots in prime time
It has not been a good season for the Miami Dolphins overall sitting at 5-7, three of those losses came in consecutive nationally televised games in prime time. Miami will have another difficult opponent when they take on the hated Patriots Monday night. New England will be without star tight end Rob Gronkowski who is serving a one game suspension for a WWE type elbow last week against Buffalo.

The Dolphins have had trouble covering tight ends for years so this is some good news for Miami, however they will need to have a lot more go their way to have a shot against the Patriots. In order to have any chance the Dolphins will have to get pressure on Tom Brady to help the banged up secondary. Jay Cutler cannot force the issue and Miami should lean on the running game with Kenyan Drake to shorten the game and keep Brady off the field. Miami does not have the firepower to get into a shootout with New England, they must convert on third down and move the chains consistently to keep their defense fresh against Brady. It should be a solid home crowd for Miami and if the Dolphins can withstand the New England attack early they may be able to at least keep it competitive.
Miami Heat finish road trip in Memphis
The Miami Heat will conclude their three game road trip Monday night when they take on Memphis. The Heat are 1-1 on the swing with a blowout loss in San Antonio followed by a win in Mexico City against Brooklyn. The Grizzlies are in a free fall without star point guard Mike Conley, they have dropped 14 out of their last 15 and have blown big leads in their previous two games.
Miami is coming off a solid, yet unspectacular win against Brooklyn and look to make it a winning trip against Memphis. The Heat took better care of the ball with a season low six turnovers against the Nets, combined with a solid defensive effort and intensity this is a winning formula for Miami. Hassan Whiteside is still out of the lineup with a knee bruise, Erik Spoelstra may go with Kelly Olynyk and James Johnson again as the starting power rotation, they have shown great chemistry and played excellent complimentary basketball.
Panthers take the ice in Detroit
Two teams coming off of big losses face off Monday as the Panthers head up to Detroit after a 7-3 shellacking at home against Colorado Saturday. Detroit had problems of their own, falling 6-1 to St. Louis in the second game of their five game home stand. Florida goalie James Reimer has been struggling since replacing starter Roberto Luongo who will be sidelined for multiple weeks due to a groin injury. The Panthers have had trouble finding the back of the net without centers Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Davidov who are also out with injury, Florida needs the likes of Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau to pick up the scoring slack. Aaron Ekblad and Denis Malgin have been hot, each scoring in three straight. This will begin a five game road trip for the Panthers.
