FAU Football: Owls look to stay unbeaten in Conference USA vs UNT

FAU Football looks to stay unbeaten in Conference USA play as they take on the University of North Texas Saturday October 21st at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. This is Homecoming week and it should be an electric atmosphere in the stands and on campus.

Florida Atlantic enters the game 2-0 in C-USA and 3-3 overall, while the Mean Green of North Texas come into the game 3-0 in conference play and 4-2 on the season. The Owls are coming off a demolition of Old Dominion 58-28 and have won three out of their last four games overall. North Texas is also playing good football having won three in a row themselves and sit atop the Conference USA West standings.

The FAU offense is averaging almost 35 points a game but the defense is allowing just under 26. North Texas puts up 37.2 point per game on offense and their defense has also struggled allowing close to 33 points per contest so far. The Mean Green have a prolific offense led by sophomore quarterback Mason Fine, who has thrown for 1796 yards to go with 14 touchdowns against just five interceptions. Hi favorite target has been wide receiver Jalen Guyton who leads the team in receving with 626 yards on 32 receptions. Guyton has made the most of his catches with seven of them going for touchdowns. North Texas has a balanced attack with senior running back Jeffery Wilson setting the tone. Wilson has amassed 749 yards and nine touchdowns on 109 carries with an impressive 6.9 yards per carry.

When FAU has the ball quarterback Jason Driskel may continue to use his feet to move the chains, last week against Old Dominion Driskel had four touchdowns on the ground and none through the air. Driskel had only 97 yards passing on 13 completions, while gaining 92 on the ground on 11 attempts.

This may be the most important game of the season for the Owls, if they can take home a victory against a solid conference opponent it will go a long way. Lane Kiffin has brought name recognition and national attention to FAU, however the results on the field have been mixed. With a beautiful on-campus stadium, a well known Head Coach, and the incredible recruiting grounds of South Florida, FAU football has all the potential to become a top program in the state of Florida.
