Probable Starters Preview
Marlin’s recently promoted #20 ranked prospect Jeff Brigham is set for his second career start Monday night.
Brigham will duel Met’s ace Jacob deGrom and Cy Young award contender in Monday’s opening game of a four-game set.
Jacob deGrom was originally supposed to start in Sunday’s game versus the Phillies but scratched due to rain. Due to those circumstances, deGrom will take Jason Vargas’ start.
Jeff is currently 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.67 WHIP in three innings of work. His MLB debut didn’t go exactly as any Marlins fan would have hoped. Brigham struggled with command tremendously in his debut. He threw 37 balls out of his total pitch count of 82. Brigham walked four batters in his three innings of work
He’ll need to settle down and have command of his fastball and curveball. If he does that, he could pitch himself a nice game and possibly earn his first Major League win.
However, the Marlins bats need to find a way to get some runs off deGrom. The Cy Young award contender is currently holding an MLB best 1.68 ERA, so runs will be hard to come by.
In deGrom’s last start against the Dodgers, he shut them down allowing only one earned run and striking out six. Not only will it be hard to get some runs off deGrom, it will be hard to prevent him from scoring runs of his own. deGrom helped his own cause by singling in a run against the Dodgers.
Player to watch for Miami
Lewis Brinson has been red hot in September, going 11 for his last 26 at-bats with a home run and 4 RBIs. Be on the lookout for his improved plate approach that has got him on the right track to end the season on a positive note.
