The FAU Owls’ basketball team has now dropped 3 games in a row after being defeated by the WKU Hilltoppers on Saturday, 72-66.
After losing to Marshall, FAU needed to win in WKU to salvage this short road trip. They failed to do that. Now at 11-8, the Owls need to get back in the win column soon. FAU started the game off pretty well. They went up by as much as 12 points in the first half before heading into the locker up 40-34 at halftime. The Owls could not find that same level of production in the second half, as they only put up 26 points.
Credit to WKU, as they made the proper defensive adjustments at halftime to throw the Owls off. Even switching up to a 1-3-1 zone defense at one point. The Hilltoppers were led by sophomore guard, Taveion Hollingsworth who scored a game-high 24 points.
For FAU, it was Anthony Adger and Xavian Stapleton who each put up 17 points. Stapleton found his rhythm from downtown hitting 5 three pointers. Adger continues to struggle with his shot, only shooting 7/20 in the game. After a career high 35 points for Michael Forrest, he was unable to muster up much in this one. Scoring 9 points and turning the ball over 3 times. The Owls’ front-court continues to be a non-factor on offense as they have not combined for more than 20+ points in a while.
It could be time for coach May to make some adjustments to try to get Stapleton starters minutes.
This loss sinks FAU to 11th in the C-USA and moves WKU up to 9th. The Owls are still 11-8 overall, but only 2-4 in the conference. Up next will be a crucial 2 game series against the home town rival FIU on the 23rd and 26th.
