The Marlins are in need of a left handed power bat since the trade of Justin Bour last season and there aren’t many options on the market…
A couple of options the Marlins could go after are Adrian Gonzalez and Logan Morrison.
Gonzalez is a left handed power hitting first baseman who has great career numbers. In his career he has a .287 batting average with 2,050 hits, 317 home runs and 1,202 RBIs. Adrian only played 54 games in 2018 with the New York Mets before being granted his release from the club. In those 54 games he batted a .237 average with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs.
Now that he is a free agent Gonzalez will be holding a workout in front of Major League clubs in the hopes of him being offered a contract. It is reported that he is in excellent shape and he has been consistently posting videos of him working out and taking batting practice on social media. Gonzalez is an experienced veteran. He can bring lessons to the young group that the Marlins are developing to become contributors to a contending team.
The second option the Marlins could go after is Logan Morrison who is also a left handed power hitting first baseman. Morrison was with Miami from the 2010 season to the 2013 season.
During his tenure with the Marlins, Morrison batted a .249 average with 42 home runs and 162 RBIs. Logan is also one of the few players to be part of the Marlins before and during the 2012 re-branding. If the Marlins sign Morrison again, he would be wearing his third different Marlins uniform
Morrison was with the Minnesota Twins during the 2018 season and it wasn’t a very productive season. In 95 games for the Twins, Logan batted .186 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs. Keep in mind, although his numbers aren’t eye popping, he is only 31 years old. There is still room for improvement and what better place to improve than on a rebuilding team.
