It’s Monday February 11th. Here’s what you need to know this morning in Miami sports.
1. Heat lose close game to Warriors: The Heat were out in Oakland Sunday night. Miami was on a 19-0 run at one point against the defending champs,but ended up losing 120-118. But the loss did not come without controversy. A no call on a Kevin Durant double dribble allowed Durant to take three and Cousins to get a rebound. Speaking of Durant, he put up 39 points. Josh Richardson put up 37 for the Heat. However, the Heat still lost and drop to 25-29.
2. Panthers drop game to in-state rivals: The Panthers were across the state in Tampa, Sunday to face-off with the Lightning. Florida had it at a one point game through two periods, however they allowed two power-play goals in the third to lose 5-2. The Panthers were swept by the Lightning and have now fallen to 23-23-8 on the year. Despite losing, Roberto Luongo was named the third star of the game. The Panther’s next game is Tuesday, hosting the Dallas Stars.
3. Lady Canes win on the road: University of Miami women’s basketball was in the “Steel City” Sunday for an afternoon clash with the Pittsburgh Panthers. The 25th ranked Canes won by 14 points, 65-51. Beatrice Mompremier had 23 points while collecting 13 boards, leading to 19th double-double. Miami owns the series against Pitt, winning 10 of the last 11 match-ups. Whereas, Pitt has not won a game since December. Miami’s next game is not until Sunday in Louisville.
4. Dolphins hire former Colts and Lions head coach: Over the weekend, it was announced that the Dolphins have hired former Colts head coach, Jim Caldwell as an assistant head coach as well as the quarterbacks coach. Caldwell brings 17 years of experience to the coaching staff. Caldwell lead the Lions to the playoffs twice before being fired by Detroit. He is 62-50 in his career including a Super Bowl appearance with the Colts.
