Hello Miami sports fans and happy Tuesday. A slow day around Miami sports but we’ve got you covered nonetheless!
1. Panthers host Sabres:
The Panthers play host to the Buffalo Sabres tonight at the BB&T Center. Buffalo is just one spot ahead of the Panthers in the Atlantic Division, however the distance between them is five points. All eyes will be on Aleksander Barkov following his hat-trick performance two nights earlier. Florida leads the season series 2-1.
2. Urena Opening Day starter
The Marlins announced a few days ago that the starting pitcher getting the starting nod on Opening Day is Jose Urena. However, this should not come as a surprise, as he was last year’s Opening Day starter as well. In that start, Urena gave up a lead-off homer to the Cubs’ Ian Happ. Urena also took the loss in an 8-4 Marlins’ loss. Urena finished the year 9-12 with a 3.98 ERA. As for the rest of the Marlins’ rotation, only Mattingly knows the answer to that. Many names are expected to be competing for the rotation, including Trevor Richards (check out our Alex Peters’ player profile on him), veteran lefty, Wei Yin Chen, Sandy Alcantara, and Dan Straily just to name a few.
3. Miami vs. Miami (OH)?
It will be a stadium of all Miami fans on September 2, 2023 as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks. Although this is a few years out, it is fun to see the two Miamis in college football square off. However it has been a minute before these two programs last met. The Miami Hurricanes hold a 3-0 series lead and first played the Redhawks way back in 1945. The last meeting was back in 1987 when The “U” beat Miami (OH) 54-3. The Canes will be paying the Redhawks 1.5 million dollars to job (to use a professional wrestling term) to them and enhance their number of wins. Also, we are going to start covering the Miami Redhawks leading up to the day of this match-up. (LOL just kidding because this is such a slow day.)
