The Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team played their final regular season game of the 2018-19 regular season against NC State on Sunday afternoon. They were looking to upset their third top 10 team in a month.

The Canes got off to a very hot start, opening up on an 11-2 run. NC State wouldn’t go away, however. They answered with a 15-4 run to take a 17-15 lead after one quarter of play.

Like they did in their last game against Georgia Tech, Miami had a dominant second quarter. They outscored NC State 23-13 for a 38-30 halftime lead.

The Wolfpack would outscore the Canes 23-13 in the third quarter. They held a 53-51 lead headed into the final quarter of the game.

NC State took a three-point lead with 6:36 left on a DD Rogers layup. That would prove to be the dagger as Miami wouldn’t score for over three minutes. NC State went on to win by a final score of 70-68.

Beatrice Mompremier recorded yet another double-double, recording 15 points on six of 16 shooting. She also added 17 rebounds.

Emese Hof and Laura Cornelius were the only other two Canes to score in double figures. Hof scored 24 points on an impressive 12 of 15 shooting. Cornelius had 13 points on five of 11 shooting from the field and three of six from three.

Miami shot 41.4 percent (29 of 70) from the field and 28.6 percent (six of 21) from three. The biggest disadvantage for them was the free throw game. They shot four of eight from the line while NC State went 15 for 20.

The lady Canes finish the 2018-19 regular season with a 24-7 record. This includes wins over two top two opponents. That has helped them go from an unranked team one month ago to the day the 15th ranked team in the country.

They will not await their seeding for the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament to see who and when they play.

If they are a top four seed, their first game will be on March 8. If they’re a 5-9 seed, they will play March 7. Anything lower, they will play March 6. The tournament will be played at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC.
