Opening weekend is over, what do we know about the 2019 Marlins?

Alright, guys, I’m back. I wasn’t able to give you game previews for the final two games of the Rockies series, but I’m here now. Can you believe that the Marlins have played four games already? I can’t. It seems like just yesterday I was waking up to watch the Mariners and A’s play in Japan. Well, we are 4 games into the 2019 Marlins’ season and they are 2-2! Now that opening weekend is over, let’s take a look at what we know about these Marlins.

The first thing that jumps off the screen is the new uniforms. The sleek new design and the simplicity of the jerseys are breath-taking. I’m kidding, that isn’t what this article is going to be about. Instead, I was surprised that the Marlins were able to score 14 runs in this series. Four runs in the first two games combined, and 10 combined runs in the second two games. It should be no surprise that the Marlins lost both games when they scored a combined four total runs.

Sandy Alcantara

Sandy Alcantara is the biggest takeaway from this four-game series. I talked about Alcantara in his player profile and discussed his stuff. There is no question that his stuff played last season, and boy did he show it in his first start of 2019.

Eight innings, four hits, six strikeouts, and NO WALKS. This was the biggest thing for Alcantara last season. I mentioned this in his player profile if he is able to control his pitch arsenal, he has a legit opportunity to be the ace of this staff. This is by far this best start by a Marlins’ pitcher in 2019, and it might be the best start in baseball thus far.

Who’s next?

The Marlins open up a three-game series with the New York Mets on Monday night. Keep an eye out for a game preview from your’s truly. The Marlins look to win their third straight game and be over .500 for the first time in a long time.
