The Miami Dolphins are expected to release quarterback Ryan Tannehill before the 2019 season begins. This means that they will be searching for their new quarterback.
They could look in the draft. There’s many quarterback options with Miami having the 13th overall pick. They could also look into free agency. Nick Foles was the top free agent quarterback, but unfortunately, he is expected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Another option has opened up for the Dolphins when it comes to free agent quarterbacks. After losing his starting job to Baker Mayfield, Tyrod Taylor will be hitting the market come Wednesday.
According to multiple reports, Taylor could be headed to the Dolphins for the 2019 season. He was traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Cleveland Browns after leading the Bills to the postseason for the first time since 1999.
Should Miami decide to go this route, it could be a very interesting move. Taylor is not only a good thrower of the football. He can also run out of the pocket and pick up first downs and even touchdowns on the ground.
Tyrod and the Taylors
Not only that, but he’ll have some weapons to work with. It has been reported that the Dolphins are not expected to release Kenny Stills. He caught 37 passes for 553 yards and six touchdowns, meaning he’s due for a bounce-back season.
Miami has also signed former Patriots tight end Dwayne Allen to a two-year deal. While he didn’t do much with the Patriots, he did shine with Colts, catching 126 passes for 1,451 yards and 19 touchdowns in five seasons in Indy.
There’s also the chance Miami picks up a receiver with the 13th overall pick. N’Keal Harry would be an interesting pick and could wind up being a top target for Taylor should the two come together in South Beach.
Nothing is set in stone with this move, but the more you think about it, the more intriguing it sounds. Who knows? Perhaps a one-year deal could turn into something the Dolphins go for years to come.
