Game 13 of 162: Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins
All joking aside, I feel like the Marlins bounced back last night. The Marlins lost 2-1 to the Reds, but this was one day after losing 14-0. This game from last night is interesting because all three of the total runs were scored by home runs. The Marlins look to take one game of this three-game series. Let’s take a look at game 13 of the season, and the final game of this series.
Game 13
Pitching Match-up: Sonny Gray vs. Pablo Lopez
Game Time: 12:35 PM
Location: Great American Ball Park
Sonny Gray has one of the weirdest stat lines that I’ve seen this season. He is 0-2 with an ERA of 2.89 with seven strikeouts in nine and 1/3 innings. Gray suffered from the Reds’ horrific offense to start this season. For example, Gray has given up just three earned runs this season, but is 0-2. The run support has just not been there for Gray and the Reds. I personally think 2019 is going to be a huge season for Gray.
Pablo Lopez is going to get the ball for the Marlins in this game. Lopez is another young left-hander who does not have a lot of experience at the major league level. Throughout this season, Lopez is 1-1 with a 6.10 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings. The most important thing about Lopez’s 2019 season thus far is his walk total, which is one. He has walked just one batter this season. This will be Lopez’s 13th start of his career.
My prediction
I’m going to make my prediction short and sweet. Although the Marlins played much better last night, I’m taking the Cincinnati Reds to win this game. I think that Gray continues to pitch well, and he should finally get the run support he needs. As for the Marlins, they have scored just six runs in the last five games. Something needs to happen with this offense, that is if they want a chance to win baseball games.
