Game 15 of 162: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins
This is my second attempt at starting this article. The first one didn’t go well because I wrote a lot of harsh words about the Marlins’ offense. But, I mean come on. In the last four games, the Marlins have scored just two runs. That is terrible. Obviously, the Marlins lost last night to the Philadelphia Phillies. The final score of that game was 9-1, which made the Marlins’ record 3-11. Let’s take a look at game 15 out of 162.
Game 15
Pitching Match-up: Zach Eflin vs. Caleb Smith
Game Time: 6:10 PM
Location: Marlins Park
Zach Eflin will get the ball for the Phillies. This will be Eflin’s 3rd start of the season, and he has been terrific. Through two starts, he is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings. He has also walked just one batter. Eflin has been far and away the Phillies best pitcher thus far in 2019. If Eflin is able to continue to pitch the way that he has thrown, then the Marlins have no chance in this game.
Caleb Smith will also get his 3rd start of the season in this game. Smith’s numbers are a bit different from Eflin. He is 0-0 with a 4.09 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 11 innings. The young left-hander has done a good job striking batters out this season. However, this Phillies lineup will be the best lineup he has faced all season.
My prediction
Again, this game was easy for me to pick. I’m taking the Phillies to win this game. It’s just as easy as yesterday. The Marlins‘ offense has basically gone to the plate without a bat for the last four games. Again, that might be a little harsh, but tell me that I’m wrong. You can’t. This team has not looked good at all. Unfortunately, I do not see that changing in this game. I expect Eflin to continue his impressive 2019 season.
