Game 27 of 162: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins
Well, the Marlins could not stay hot. They lost last night to the Phillies 4-0. The Marlins never looked comfortable in this game. I talked about how Jerad Eickhoff would locate the fastball and work off of that. That is exactly what he did. The Marlins were unable to hit off the fastball, instead, they tried to hit the breaking stuff. This will be the third game of the four-game series, and a win here will guarantee a series split. Let’s take a look at game 27 of the season.
Pitching Match-up: Jake Arrieta vs. Trevor Richards
Game Time: 6:05 PM
Location: Citizens Bank Park
Jake “The Snake,” Arrieta will get the ball for his 6th start of the season. Thus far, he is 3-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 34 innings. Arrieta has looked like the Arrieta of old in the sense of innings thrown. Throughout every start of this season, Arrieta has thrown at least 6 innings. Every time he takes the mound, you think he is going to go the distance. One of the problems for Arrieta this season has been his walks. He has walked 13 batters through those 34 innings.
Trevor Richards has been an unlucky pitcher to start this season. He is 0-3 with a 3.72 ERA in 5 starts this season. He has thrown 29 innings and struck out 28 batters. Again, a problem for a lot of younger pitchers has been walks. Richards has walked 16 batters in those 29 innings. I say that Richards has been unlucky because he has not gotten a lot of run support. He has thrown better than a 0-3 record.
I’m attempting to make my second correct prediction in a row. With that being said, I’m taking the Phillies to win this game. Bryce Harper hit a home run late in last nights game. I think that will help to wake up the offense a bit. The Marlins offense didn’t show up last night, and I don’t expect them to show up tonight. If the Marlins want a chance to win this game, they will need to be patient. Don’t expand the strike zone. If Arrieta is wild early, allow him to be wild.
