Game 8 of 162: Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins

I’m just going to start this game preview off by saying the last series was terrible. The Marlins got swept by the New York Mets. Although every game finished close, it felt like the Marlins were never in any of the three games. I went 0-2 in my predictions for the series, and then for the third game of the series, Jacob DeGrom was on the hill. Again, the Marlins ended up making it close by scoring four runs in the 9th inning, but it felt like they had no chance against the reigning Cy Young award winner. Let’s hope game eight of the season is different.

With that series behind the Marlins, they come into this series against the Braves with a record of 2-5. Just about where I thought they would be at this point in the season. Traditionally, I never think that a series in April is a big one. However, with the Marlins already 2-5 and the rest of the NL East off to a hot start, it feels like the Marlins need to win at least one of this games. That game could be tonight.

Game 8:

Pitching Match-up: Kevin Gausman vs. Pablo Lopez

Game Time: 7:20 PM

Location: SunTrust Park

This is the Marlins first road trip of 2019, and they open up in Atlanta. Kevin Gausman is set to make his first start of the young 2019 season. In 2018, between Baltimore and Atlanta, Gausman finished 10-11 with a 3.92 ERA in 31 starts. Not too bad. The former 1st round pick has never quite pitched to his full potential. For the Marlins, the hope is that continues in 2019.

As for the Marlins, they send the 23-year-old left-hander Pablo Lopez to the mound. Lopez pitched well in his 2019 debut, throwing five and 1/3 innings giving up three runs and striking out seven. Lopez won that game as the Marlins bats erupted for seven runs against the Colorado Rockies.

My Prediction

I try to stay away from online gambling because most of the time I lose. My last two game previews I’m 0-2 in my picks, and I picked the Marlins to win both games. I know that you guys are not reading my articles and then putting the mortgage down on whatever team I pick to win. But, I still want to be right for you guys. With that being said, I feel like the Braves are a better team than the Mets. When you pair the talent of the Braves roster, with the hot bat of Freddy Freeman, it’s tough to pick against them.

I think the Braves will win this game. However, I have a feeling in my gut that is telling me this game is going to be close. Almost close enough for me to take the Marlins. However, I am taking the Braves to win this game behind a quality start from Gausman.
