Happy Monday everybody. Here’s what you need to know to start the week in Miami Sports.
Marlins lose in 14: The Marlins were in action at home against the Phillies. Miami sent Jose Urena to the mound, who is looking for his first win of the season. In the fourth, Cesar Hernandez got the scoring started with a solo shot to right. However, in the sixth Miami answered back with a solo home-run to center. Things remained tied 1-1 until the 14th. Wei Yin Chen is in for the Marlins, looking to get on the right track. But, Philadelphia had other ideas. After striking out Aaron Alther, Chen gave up a one out triple to Andrew McCutchen. Then, a batter later, Jean Segura hit a two run shot left field, putting Philly up 3-1. Neil Walker tried to get things started in the bottom half of the inning, however a double play ended things for the Fish.
Philadelphia takes the series two games to one. The season continues to be tough for the Marlins, as they drop to 4-12. Things don’t get any easier for Miami as they face the Cubs.
Fish hosting Cubs: The Fish are back in action tonight against the Cubs. Chicago is coming off a split series with the LA Angels after having game three postponed. Miami will send Trevor Richards to the mound. The Cubs send Yu Darvish to the mound who is still looking to get going. However he posts a 7.94 ERA in three career starts against the Fish. Richards is 0-1 this season, but has pitched better than his record indicates. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.
FAU Owls Spring game: The FAU Owls had their spring football game this weekend. Monte Kiffin, Lane’s dad, led the Red team to a 17-16 victory after walk-on, Christian Hoyos missed a game-winning field goal. The running game struggled, however the quarterbacks impressed. Justin Anger threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns.
