Happy Tuesday Miami sports fans! Here’s what you need to know today around our world of sports.
Marlins drop game to Mets: The Marlins hosted their rival, the New York Mets in Miami last night. Miami got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer from shortstop, Starlin Castro. That lead did not last long. New York got a run back in the second from a Jeff McNeill double. Castro, in the third got the Marlins a 3-1 lead with an RBI single. The Mets tied things in the seventh with a Juan Lagares homer. An RBI single made things 4-3 in the ninth, but the highlight of the game was a three-run bomb from Mets’ propsect, Pete Alonso. Alonso’s first career home-run proved to be the nail on the coffin for Miami, as they go on to lose 7-3. However, Caleb Smith took the no-decision and struck out eight Mets.
Up next, Miami hosts New York tonight. Jose Urena looks to bounce-back from a rough Opening Day start. New York will send veteran lefty, Jason Vargas to the hill.
Heat drop road game to Celtics: The Heat were in Boston last night, taking on the the Celtics. Miami was down early, after a disastrous first quarter. The Heat were down 61-47 at the half. However, Boston never let the lead get away and went on to win 110-105, despite out shooting the Celtics, 45 percent to 39 percent. However, Miami only shot the deep ball at a lackluster 27 percent compared to Boston’s 45. Goran Dragic was the star for the Heat, scoring 30 points in 39 minutes played. Miami hosts the Celtics in Miami tomorrow night.
Panthers stun Caps: The Panthers hosted the defending Stanley Cup champions, Washington Capitals last night in Sunrise. Frank Vatrano put the Panthers up 1-0 in the first period, and the scoring would not stop. Florida scored three more goals in the second to go up 4-0. Finally, in the third Washington scored three-unanswered goals of their own to cut the lead to only one. However, an empty net goal from Vincent Trocheck sealed the game for Florida, 5-3.
